Phil has worked in performance sport for nearly 30 years, having graduated from Newcastle Polytechnic (now Northumbria University) in the early 1980’s. Initially he worked with Sport England, and more recently as a consultant to a number of NGBs and the English Institute of Sport. He established Performance Advantage as a Limited Company in 2009 and took great pride in celebrating the company’s 10th anniversary in 2019. Until a knee injury in 2015 he enjoyed most team sports as well as skiing and cycling. He now enjoys relatively sedate option of walking his two cocker spaniels, Pheena and Mory.

James joined Performance Advantage in August 2015, taking the lead role with Durham and Newcastle University Rugby whilst working with Doncaster Knights in the Greene King IPA Championship, helping the club to the British and Irish Cup Final and a 2nd place finish in the league, qualifying for the promotion playoff final to the Aviva Premiership in 2015/16.
In June 2016, James joined the Performance Advantage team on a full time basis and leads our work with Durham Cricket and NGB’s such as Scottish Rugby Union analysing performance, S&C and wellness data. Other areas of James’ role include training and management of placement students and managing performance analysis support to DMP Sharks, Durham and Newcastle Univerisities.
James is currently studying an MSc at Northumbria University in Information Sciences (Data Analytics), with a focus upon database modelling, relational algebra, SQL, Python and R. Whilst teaching the Performance Analysis module on the undergraduate sport science degree’s at Northumbria University.

In 2016/17 Bertie undertook a placement year with Performance Advantage as part of his 3rd year (out of 4) of his Sports Science undergraduate degree at Bath University.
Following the successful completion of his studies in 2018, Bertie joined the company on a full time basis working predominanlty in the field of Data Analysis within professional cricket, looking to develop and increase the use of Tableau to visualize data within the county game by Analysts, Players and Coaches alike. During this time he has worked with a number of counties on a consultancy basis, including 2019 Vitality Blast finalists Worcestershire and Essex.
At the time of writing* (*October 2019) Bertie has been working alongside former Australia coach Darren Lehmann to fulfill the role of Draft and Data Manager for the Northern Superchargers. (The Leeds based team that will compete in the new ECB competition, The Hundred in 2020)
Having completed a placement year with Sussex CCC in June 2019, Harrison joined Performance Advantage as Front Line Analyst with Yorkshire CCC for the remainder of the 2019 season. Harrison has now returned to Birmingham University to complete his studies whilst working with us on a part time basis. We look forward to Harrison joining us full time when he graduates for the remainder of the 2020 cricket season, where he will resume his role with Yorkshire CCC and also work with the Women’s Northern Superchargers squad.
